I have a social networking site similar to myspace I read that on linux there is a 30,000 file per folder limit, it this true? currently in the first 2 weeks now we have 18,849 pictures in the picture folder
Well, you could test by creating 30000+ files in a directory and see what happens. I had the impression that the limits were generally on file and volume size, but perhaps it depends on the file system.
On winblows the limits are: FAT: 512 FAT32: 65,534 NTFS: 4,294,967,295
That doesn't mean it's a good idea to have that many in a folder though 🙂
