[RESOLVED] ereg newline in brackets

i'm looking for urls in a string with eregi. i've got a pretty good one now but it doesn't recognize new lines

$GLOBALS['pattern'] = '(www|[a-zA-Z0-9]+://)([^ ]+)';

it recognizes all these but only if their is a space at the end of the line:

http://www.arcade.ch
www.asdf-fdsa.com
www.tyurtu_wertert.ch
www.trewertre.sdf/ererer/dfdfdf.htm
http://asdf.wert-wert.com/sdf.htm?id=2345&dfg=347
[url]ftp://ftp.asdf.co.uk[/url]
fdasdsa://wert.trwe.com

my question is how do i tell php that it also has to stop at a new line and not only spaces?

[^ {backslash}n]

this code (replace {backslash} with ) doesn't work. with this it also stops at \ and n.

Well, first off you're using eregi instead of preg_match 🙂
There's the possibility that this files uses Windows linebreaks, in which case you need to look for \r as well.

But if you want any whitespace character to mark the end of the URI you could use \s, short for "any whitespace character" (in preg_match; if you're still using ereg it'd be [[:space:]]).

$GLOBALS['pattern'] = '(www|[a-zA-Z0-9]+://)([^[:space:]]+)';

[:space:] is any white-space character, which should include newlines.

solved it with [:space:]
