User Authorization Through IE

Hello All,

I have a project where I'm working on an automatic signin system with a website. Our company uses Networked Windows XP Machines where you can sign in with any terminal using a username and password to gain access to their files. Someone had mentioned to me that IE can pass the username through its browser.

I was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction to a PHP function or tutorial that can pick up on this variable. I would like to make it so that PHP starts a session using that persons Windows username.

I know how to do this in IIS... not sure about Apache. What webserver are you running?
