[RESOLVED] Set default value to the same value as another field

Am just trying to do this, but not getting it.

Basically I have a 'Date Entered' field, which defaults to the timestamp of the date a new record is entered.

I also have a 'Last Updated' field - so when a new record is added, these would be the same - so would like 'Last Updated' to default to 'Date Entered'.

I've tried just entering 'DateAdded' or "DateAdded" as the default in phpMyAdmin, but it doesn't like it.

Any ideas?

on a timestamp or date time fild in phpMyAdmin, you have to use the NOW() option from the drop down menu, or in your SQL use NOW() as a value, if you do so for both they should contain the same value

What you need are 2 timestamp columns, one set to be the auto-update column so that it updates every time the row is updated and the other set to have a default of current_timetsamp. Have a good read of the manual as the behaviour varies from version to version

Thank you - got it now - almost had it, but got it wrong when I checked the 'timestamp' default to now() for both fields, and got a message about how I couldn't do that.

So the data added is a set as a default to now(), and last updated is updated using a hidden field on my update page.
