Need help alphabetizing letters in a word

Well, i'm not exactly even sure where to start on this...but the basic idea is, I want to take an array of words and rearrange the letters in those words into alphabetic order. ie...

apple = aelpp
builder = bdeilru
arizona = aainorz

Any help would be appreciated.

Split the string into an array of single characters and use sort(), then make it a string.

Hint: read the php manual for split()

Depending on what your ultimate goal is, you might find [man]count_chars/man to be useful.
