mysql query problem in php sctip

hello everybody,

I'm working through a tutorial and i can't seem to get past an error message i keep.

I'm using WAMP5 server to work through the tutorial.

Error message:
You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'LIMIT 1' at line 1

part of the code that i'm working with:

function get_subject_by_id($subject_id) {
	global $connection;
	$query = "SELECT * ";
  	$query .= "FROM subjects ";
	$query .= "WHERE id=" . $subject_id ." ";
	$query .= "LIMIT 1";

$result_set = mysql_query($query, $connection);
confirm_query($result_set);
if ($subject = mysql_fetch_array($result_set)) { return $subject; }
 else { return NULL; }
}

My guess would be that $subject_id is empty. But to find out, I'd suggest you use something like the following pattern to find out:

$result_set = mysql_query($query, $connection);
if(!$result_set)
{
   user_error("Query failed: " . mysql_error() . "<br>\n$query");
}

Pretty easy.

$query .= "WHERE id=" . $subject_id ." ";

change the above line to the below line

$query .= "WHERE id=' . $subject_id .' ";
