I need advice

.first of all i would like to say hello to all of you..

..OK here's the thing..
..i'm a total newbie in php, and by total i mean a complete newbie with no idea where to start and what to do..

..so i was thinking that i tell you my problem and you give me advices and tips..

..i was thinking about making an interactive GIS map..(something like this http://www.zadar.hr/Hrvatski/odredista.aspx)..
..i've got the map ready, i've got the data for database ready, i've got all the basic material ready and now i "only" need to put it all together into one functional map..

..so..i need advices on..what software to use to make a database..what software to use to make a map..what software to use to make a web page (the purpose is online use)..how to put it all together..i plan on developing it further in the future and expanding it so please take that in consideration..

..all links, manuals, suggestions, ideas etc. are welcome..

..i'm sure you've gotten the idea..i hope it's not too much trouble and i hope to hear some good ideas..

My advice is to start small and then do bigger stuff. Don't try to do all this as your first project.

First go through a lot of tutorials, www.w3schools.com have a good one. Then read a lot in the manuals. This should be done for both PHP, a database, html and css if you don't know any of them.

Second start with something easy, like a register for your books. You will notice a lot that you have to do 3-4 times, use that when you develope the real thing.

Third extend the first project. What about expanding your register to contain films as well?

Forth you are probably ready to start with the real thing.

When you develop start by designing everything, then start programming. If you don't you will only get in trouble and have to do a lot more than once.

Learn to walk before you run!

Go to Amazon and get a few books on PHP and MySql and read through them. You should also go through the PHP documentation as well. Take classes if they are available. Visit PHP websites as well. They are a great source for information.
