I want to create an online extranet so that user can key in numbers/availability for a particular room type. The numbers/availability will then be shown on the website instantly.

not following your question,
are you trying to tie in an intranet with a public website?
If so, all you have to do is make sure that in the website and intranet share a database or at least have synchronized databases

I own a dot com company that makes on online reservation for hotels. At the moment i'm just utilising PHP 'form to emial' for my reservation. It works fine. Now i want to take a step further. I want hotel to log in a secure website where they will key in their number of rooms available for a particular room category. Then this infor will be instantly updated in my website.

I'm not sure if this should be syncronized database??

Creating HTML log in page using PHP has been done (no prob so far). Creating database using MySQL PHP can be done (hopefully no prob). Now the only obstacle is how to share that database & showing it in the webpage instantly(BIG PRO😎.

Let me ask you this,
these hotels, do they have their own reservation system and are simply entering data into your website on a interval basis, like daily or every few hours, or are you looking to provide a hotel or hotels with an online interface in which to actually do the booking and reservation?

Basically, how consistent will room availabity be between hotels updating on and off on your website, and how crucial to your operation is for the data to be 100% real time and accurate?

If you are looking for an all inclusive portal for reservation management and booking, then this project is probably beyond regular scope.

But if your looking for a simple "this is what we offer, contact us for more info" sort of portal, then hosting your website online and simply giving hotels username/password combos to an admin section of the website will take care of your database sharing problems
