Mail Function Sends Backslashes

I have a contact page that uses the mail function, and whenever a message is sent, anything that should be ignored by using the backslash still upholds. For example, an e-mail I would get could say "I didn/'t do it." instead of "I didn't do it.". Is there any way to fix this?

If magic_quotes_gpc is enabled on you host (see [man]get_magic_quotes_gpc[/man]), you'll want to filter any form inputs through [man]stripslashes/man before including them in the email.

Your problem is magic_quotes_gpc. It will cause you a world of pain:

• ALWAYS turn off magic_quotes_gpc
• In a common header, ensure that it is still turned off - throw a big loud error otherwise - to prevent against data corruption in case magic_quotes_gpc accidentally gets turned back on.
• Escape all strings embedded somewhere else (e.g. SQL) appropriately for the context, in that context - i.e. don't escape things before they need to be escaped
• Ideally disable the function stripslashes() as it is NEVER useful, and if you're EVER using it, you're doing something wrong.

I can't even begin to stress how USELESS magic_quotes_gpc is, it WILL wreck all your data.
