need help with dropdown menu from a database table

i need help with this code..

i'm trying to make a dropdown menu that gets the data from an sql table..

can anyone figure out what is wrong with this?..

i've been experimenting with this code for a few weeks now and i still can't figure out what is wrong with it..

btw, i'm new to php programming..

Hi,

I've tweaked your code to make it readable. It probably won't work still, but might help you to find your errors.

Your query is somewhat unusual. Try and describe exactly what you want rather than just saying it doesn't work.

Then, what is $field? It's not been defined in your code.

Also, you start by storing the '<select>' opening tag in the var $fieldHTML but then proceed to echo out the options and the closing tag directly.

are you familiar with joomla cms?..

this code came from a joomla component called sobi 2..

i've been trying to get some help from the developers but i think they are too busy to help me..

i attached 2 files that contain the code below..

form2.class.php.txt is the original..

form.class.php.txt is the one that i edited..

the code that i'm trying to edit is in line 161-169..

the name of the table that i'm trying to access is jos_sobi2_service and the fieldnames are svcid, svcname and svcalias..

btw, i changed the sql query..

the one that i used before was wrong..
