Port displays in url

I can be working developing a script and if I backspace the url to get back to the root of the directory I'm working in sometimes the port will display not allow me to get back to were I was.

For example

www.whatever.com/directory where I was/directory I was backspacing

I start backspacing to get to "directory where I was" and when I hit enter I get this instead.

[url]www.whatever.com:16708/directory[/url] where I was/

The port pops up and I come to a standstill until the browser times out.

What could be causing this...Apache settting or something else?

The answer depends on when you hit the enter key.

You said you start backspacing but you don't say how many characters you deleted before pressing backspace.

Here's what I think is happening: I think that you backspaced some of the URL and were left with a URL that wasn't real. No page existed at that URL. In this case you would get a 404 error. I think that the 404 error page redirected you to a URL on a different port.

My guess might not be exactly right (for example, maybe it's a code 302, not a 404)... but in general, this is roughly what's going on. You might search your apache config and your web site for instances of 16708. That might give you a clue about what's going on.

I think it is some type of redirect with a Mac OSX installaton of Apache. If I leave off the backspace it sends me to the [url]www.whatever.com:16708[/url]
