MySQL Database help

Hello is it possible to connect to a mySQL Database that is not located on the same site as the webpage.

If you read the friendly manual, you would see that the first parameter you supply to [man]mysql_connect()[/man] is a server argument which would allow you to specify an ip address or domain if you so chose.

Note that if connecting to a remote database host you will probably need to specify a port ID as part of the host name/address. Also, the DB host needs to be configured to allow remote connections in the first place.

I think it's more of a sever issue than database, though I'm not 100% positive. It's the sort of thing I leave up to the sysadmin types, and just wait for them to tell me what server name and port number to use.
