number comparing

Hello,

For the project I am working on, a user log's in every day and enter's a number.

I then need to check to see if that number is higher than any of the 6 numbers previously posted.

I am pulling the 6 previous numbers, but I am not sure how to find the highest number so that I can compare that to the number entered today.

Anyone have ideas?

where are you storing the numbers previously posted? a db, a .txt log file?

SELECT number_col FROM TABLE ORDER BY number_col DESC LIMIT 1

Also, I just found out about the MAX() function in another thread, from NogDog I believe. Look into that. Seems like a slightly more efficient way of getting the highest number.

That looks like just what I'm looking for (if it works like php.net says it should)

I'm still in the coing phase and havn't even uploaded any files to the server, but once I do, I post if this works or not.
