[RESOLVED] A newbie has no idea what to do.

A week or 2 ago i started in html and now i wanna move on to php but always when i try to save it i put the .php extension but it just comes out as a text file.

You need to install PHP, most likely after installing a web server (and possibly a database server). Follow the instructions given in the PHP Manual, or use a pre-packaged installer such as WAMP.

I installed Uniform, that includes PHP and MYSQL doesn't it?

You mean the Uniform Server, I presume? I have never heard about it, much less tried it, but it does seem appropriate. You will need to read their documentation to find out where you should place your files.

I know where to place them, but the problem is that the files always come out as text files(don't really know what they should look, lol)

Oh... for Windows XP, in Windows Explorer, go to Tools -> Folder Options -> View and then uncheck "hide extensions for known file types".

Chances are your text editor saved the files with a .txt extension by default, so your files are actually named foo.php.txt, but the web server only treats files with a .php extension as PHP scripts.

It still doesn't work, it saves it as a a text file but the difference is i can change it, after i change it, it becomes a file with "Unknown application"
