PHP cookie problem

If I set a cookie and have a print($_COOKIE['cookie']); on the page I have to set it twice for it to display!

It seems a common issue from searching on google but I couldn't find a solution.

If I try clearing the cookies, the print cookie comes up with nothing (like a delay)

Are you want to use a cookie for that info?
A user could just change it and make themselves logged in.
Wouldn't sessions be better?

If you read the manual, you will see that you cannot set a cookie AND read it's value on the same request. ( http://php.net/set_cookie )

[INDENT]Once the cookies have been set, they can be accessed on the next page load with the $_COOKIE or $HTTP_COOKIE_VARS arrays.[/INDENT]

Also, as rowan states, there are some security issues with your code anyway, and would be well advise to rethink the use of cookies here in favor or sessions.

Doesn't phpBB use cookies? Isn't that insecure as well?
