SEARCH BOX or SEARCH ENGINE ?

Hi to all who read this.

Ok. I have a site where im after having a search box with 2 options in it.

Search artist
2.Search song title

I have a PHP based site and the search box i have now is way to hard for people to use and not very user friendly.

The people i have asked have told me there is no script for this ?
Or it cannot be done ?
Im unsure if it can or cant be done and would appreciate any help i could get.
I will be looking for somebody to do this for me to once we have discussed exactly what i mean.

Not only can it be done, there's about 10 ways to do it.

You could have a text field where they type in their search and then two check boxes (artist) (title) where they specify which type of search. Then in your PHP script, you check to see which one they want to search and do that type of search.
You could have one text field and two submit buttons. PHP script can tell which button they clicked and do that kind of search.
You could have one text field and one submit button. When they do the search, you check all artists to see if there's a match. Then you check all titles to see if there's a match. Once you determine yourself if this is an artist or a title, then you do a search to return all the results.
You could have two text fields (artist and title) and one submit button. The PHP script checks to see which field was filled in and does that kind of search.

oh man . I thought it could be done . but have been told by the person that designed my site that they could not find a script for it. and now the search button i have is sooo hard to use. And not like your saying. I need help to do this . or instructions on how to pass on to somebody that can do it. Either way is fine with me. And or where do i fid the script for it.

Typically, anytime you want something custom, you write it yourself instead of trying to find a script. (That's what most of the people in this forum tend to do, anyway). You're not likely to find a script that is going to just magically work with whatever database and tables you have that you are searching. The person who designed your site sounds like they don't really know what they're doing. I suggest that you find a developer who can look at your site and give you some options because unless it violates the laws of physics, you can pretty much do anything with PHP.

I Will try a local firm to me and see what they have to say about it. Unless you can point me in the direction of a developer you know who could do this ?
