[RESOLVED] php user and pass

Thank you halojoy and defender for your assistance. I am using XP pro, MS outlook, php, MySql. All installed and working fine. What I would like to acheive is testing php form offline, using local host to email to MS outlook to check data received format. Then i will be able to play with displaying the data in an easy to read format. Thanks again for your assistance on this.

what user password ?
to mysql db or ....

you have to know where username/password is stored
If is in MySQL database,
you could use phpMyAdmin to edit, and insert a new md5(password) for any user

ok shall do thank you for your advice... tried to delete but unable to do so, therefore i marked them as resolved. I am trying to use localhost to test php forms offline, but am not quite sure how to do this, any assitance here would be appreciated and thanks in advance.

What operating system? What web server? Need more details about exactly how your system is setup so we can help you out...

get, retrieve and process form submitted values
with use of form with so called 'POST' method

search for:
form post validate username password submit process

... or something like that

Using WinXP and I assume IIS... I'm pretty sure you'd need to setup SMTP as well so your mail function can send mail...

yes servise pack 2, i have set a new mail account as follows: Under Server Information heading, sub heading: Incoming Mail Server (POP3) i put: localhost then under subheading: Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) i put: localhost then when i clicked on Test Account Settings i got: Send test e-mail message: Outlook could not logon to the outgoing mail server (SMTP). The problem could be the server name, your server may require authentication, or your server may not support SSL. Verify authentication and SSL options under More Settings.

I dissabled server authentication as its my local HDD and also dissabled the SSL. Still unable to receive emails sent within Local. Any help here is deeply appreciated. thank you in advance.

instead of localhost, put your host's smtp server

when you subscribe to an internet service, you get a paper with information
usually they inform what is the SMTP Server name

if your ISP is domain.com
often, but not always, the SMTP server is: smtp.domain.com
... at least this is the case for me

The trick Halojoy, is that I think we're talking about trying to send email from an offline testing box. rroobb, if you are trying to send from your own box, you will need to setup the SMTP server on it. Try Googling things like: How to setup SMTP on Windows XP" or something like that.

Now, one way around it is to follow Halojoy's advice in your setup, so even if you are offline, as long as your PC is connected to the internet, it should be able to be utilized for testing. Be careful not to test too much at once because it could flag your Host's server as a DOS attack or SPAM attack coming from your PC, which would be a very bad thing.

because apache server is installed on my HDD and acting like a server, am i not able to send myself emails to ms outlook with out plugging into the internet at all?

Sorry, you never said you had Apache installed. I mentioned IIS and you never corrected me, so I was working on that assumption.

for some reason i thought IIS meant service pack 2... sorry (too many long hours). However I have refered to the link you provided and there is some more reading to do .... I will let you know how I went... thanks again TheDefender for your help... have blessed day.
