[RESOLVED] link question

i realize this is probably not the best place to ask this question, but i don't know of an html forum and i am working on a php script.

I am trying to add a link to a photo on another server. I am reading a database with the address of the photo in one of the fields(photo). what i have in this field is P:\HUMAN RESOURCES\EMPLOYEE PICTURES - SEPT 2005\SMITH, MICHAEL.JPG

I have this in my script
echo "photo: <a href=$photo>employee photo</a>";

I can see during debug the $photo has the correct value, but when the page displays it shows this
file:///P:/HUMAN

The link seems to get truncated somewhere, but i don't know why.

Can anyone explain this to me?

spaces are not allowed in URL
but quite okay in pc filesystem

if am not wrong here , you should have a look at [man]urlencode[/man]
which will correct you link

now this is what I would try

$photo = urlencode( $photo );
echo 'photo: <a href="' .  $photo . '">employee photo</a>'; 

it will probably not work, but try

You gotta use quotes....
