Best mysql type for cash amount.

When setting up a table that is holding data for cash amounts like a product price, what's the best type to choose?

I've seen others using float, but also decimal. I have read that float/double have limitations, but don't know exactly what these limitations are.

Decimal/numeric actually store the values as a string.

So what is the best type to choose, please explain.

Generally speaking, something like DECIMAL(10,2)

We use an integer type and store all monetary values in the lowest denominator, pence in our case.

float is subject to rounding errors. use an exact type like decimal / numeric or int to avoid them.

That's what I use. Everything else seems to run into some sort of trouble eventually.

Make sure you put the 2 in there (instead of the default 0) since it will wipe all of your decimals if you don't.
