Instant Help Please With Installation

Hello,

Right now I'm trying to download PHP for the first time on my computer.

But when I try to download a window comes up saying something of this sort:

"To open this program, windows needs to know the program that created it..." and then so on.

Also if it helps, I'm using Mozilla Firefox as my internet browser.

For that screen I can not download it.

Any help is appreciated!

If you are setting up to test development on your home computer, there are some great all in one installation packages you can use.

If you are using Windows, Google WAMP and you should see some software called wampserver that may help you.

You should just be downloading a zip or exe. Windows should natively know what those file-types are. Download from the Windows Binaries section of php.net, not the Complete Source Code.

Typically, you want to get the zip package, not the installer; however, either will work.

Eh... I've seen way too many problems arise when using the MSI to call it "working" (compared to manually installing, anyway).

I would highly recommend you download the zip package and follow the instructions in the manual ([man]install.windows[/man] - pick either Apache1/2 or IIS, or whatever webserver you're using, also don't forget to follow the steps here: [man]install.windows.manual[/man]).
