Can anyone shed any light on how this can be done.
I had heard of things like WAMP and XAMPP, but wasn't sure where to start.
I would be eternally grateful for assistance on this.

WAMP and XAMPP are both viable options for automated installation of Apache, PHP, and MySQL on a Windows computer. Be aware though that their default settings are probably not sufficiently secure for a production server on the web, but are fine for local development on your PC or a closed intranet where it will not be accessible via the internet. If this will be for a live server on the web, then you will still need to have someone with some degree of expertise go through the various configuration files/settings and adjust them (or spend some time yourself doing a lot of reading/Googling so that you can configure it yourself).
