Newbie Needs Help...

Hi All:

Actually, "newbie" is giving me way too much credit...my cat knows more about PHP than I do. However, I think it's the way to go for what I need, so I'm hoping someone will come to the rescue (assuming I'm even on the right forum, that is).

Anyway, here's the scoop: I have a website cenetered around the use of Microsoft Flight Simulator...members join-up online and perform simulated flight missions together, etc. I'd like a web page that shows "Active Flight In Progress". Say that Pete and Joe decide to make a flight from Smithers to Prince George...one of them would go to this web page and fill in a few text boxes with the basic flight info, then press an UPDATE button. The info would then be posted to and displayed on that same web page...any other members logging in could view this web page and know what's going on, who's flying where, and so on. There should be a "CLEAR button to empty all the fields after the flight is completed.

Now for the bad news: I don't wish to learn PHP programming, and reference-links to tutoials that I won't understand wouldn't help much. What I'm really looking for is someone to knock out this code that I can paste to an HTML web page (that much I can probably handle). I'm not real fussy about how it looks, as long as it works. That's it...a simple form that allows members to enter a few lines of text info, UPDATE it right back to that web page, and be able to CLEAR it after the flight. Anyone interested in helping with this please contact me at (admin@lewisaire.com) for specic info.

I suggest that if you don't want to take the time to learn PHP, visit a rentacoder.com type site and pay a few bucks to have someone knock out the script for you. I seriously doubt anyone here will be willing to take time out of their day to write you an entire script, when you will obviously not become an active member of this forum.

No, Jorge, I won't hire a coder; this is a hobby-for-fun, not a paying business. But if the general membership here shares your attitude, (and apparently you are the official spokesperson), you're probably right. It's funny, though...I share my talents regularly with folks who need help and do not possess such skills, and I find two things peculiar: One, I'm proud when I can help someone, not offended that they asked. Two, unless it involves my professional livelihood, I don't expect payback. How odd, huh?

Truth is, I program in other languages (not PHP, unfortunately), and I suspect this little form wouldn't be much of an effort for someone who knows what they're doing. So I'll probably stumble into friendlier folks somewhere down the road, or maybe I'll forget about the form altogether...either way won't make headlines.

Take care, best of luck to you...I'll un-enroll from here as quickly as I can figure out how to do it. Sorry I presented such an unreasonable request.

Well, I did have a nice eloquent response, but it looks like firefox doesn't like NoScript and all has been lost. In a nutshell, though:
1.I was wrong in speaking for the entire community.
2.No need to be so passive-aggressive. I'm just one guy expressing my opinion.
3. If someone asked you to help them build a house to shelter their family, would you. You sound like a good guy, so I'm guessing yes. But what if they said "I don't know how to use a hammer and don't feel like learning, but I want you to build it for me while I go do something else" how would you feel?

That's pretty much it. Hopefully it goes through this time.

It is actually a rule at this forum,
that we cant ask for people doing jobs for us.
Paid or no paid does not matter.

And there has been many times other has been offering money
and putting links here for trying to 'catch' members.

This is why Scriptmaker replied this way.
And with full right to, well in line with PHPBuilder Staff firm policy.
If he hadnt said it, then some moderator surely would have.
I have seen this many times!

Because this PHP Help forum is not for such postings.

It is expressed like this below in Forum FAQ.
This apparently covers any job offerings. Paid or no pay.

There are no exceptions to this.
