I am using a PHP 5.2 LAMP server to allow users to download restricted files outside of the webroot. For some reason, when using readfile, fgets, or any other file reading function to serve the restricted files, the entire server stalls until the whole download is complete and users aren't able to continue browsing until it finishes. does anyone know the cause of this problem, or encountered a similar one? I've tried fgets, stream_get_line, fread, as well as setting stream_set_blocking to 0, and increasing the max requests per child, but nothing seems to work.
