Accessing Environmental variables

How can I get the "Computername" of the server running PHP?

If you do a phpinfo(); and look under Environment (right under "Additional Modules"), the fourth entry is "COMPUTERNAME"... how can I grab that?

Also, is it just a windows thing?

I DID try that before i posted and i got the ol invalid error... im glad im not the only one that though that tho... but thanks! 🙂

this works!
at least for me in my server
[man]getenv[/man] is a function
( [man]apache_getenv[/man] is a similar function )

echo getenv( 'COMPUTERNAME' );

echo getenv( 'PROCESSOR_IDENTIFIER' );

My processor identifier is: x86 Family 15 Model 44 Stepping 2, AuthenticAMD

To get the best answer, you may need to define what exactly you are looking for when you say you want the "computer name" (and perhaps why you need it). Do you really want $ENV['COMPUTERNAME'] (assuming it's even set in a given environment), or do you really want $SERVER['SERVER_NAME'] (which will probably be set in any situation)?

i actually found another way around my situation... i am developing a USB WWW project and i was trying to link to the mysql logs for display... when the filename isnt specified it defaults to the machine name...

so to make it easier i defined the log name and voila i dont need to worry about it

BUT its good to know how to grab that variable using getenv
