OMG experts pls help

ok........... so like php is murder and one day i was like i want to create a game website............ so i was like yay lets create one....... when i started i had about 3 weeks of HTML lessons from my intro to info tech class... so ya i suck at all this lol

but thanks to google and annoying LOTS of expert programmers i can officially call myself a noob 😃 which means i have a LITTLE TINY bit of knoledge for PHP lol

n e ways..................... im creating this totally awsome game site right...... and actaully if you can.. look at it cuz it will help this question ALOT

then click "Infrastructure" on the left panel part.....

then you get this totally cool looking stuff......... the top part outputs the data from the database..... i know its totally awsome lol

if you decided to make ur own account... you dont have a wing so it will be blank for you.... or full of zeros.......... if you want to see a number click create wing and make one and then look and wala you ahve buildings.. ok so im totally happy i got that working

ok so moveing on.... on the bottom there is a form... where you can modify your infrastructure.......... thast what im trying to get working.......

this is what i WANT to do...........

you have your Construct button... and Destroy button........ then under it you have your field you fill out.......

so what i want to do... is name each field...... like this Amount1, Amount2, Amount3, and so on............. and then you enter the ammount you want "#" into the text field...........

then you press construct.... to add that into the databse and destory to subtract it........ so like lets say........... you want to build 5 command centers and 8 government buildings........ so you enter those into the text fields... then press construct... and the construct portion would look somthing like this

PS: Command center = CC1 in the databse... and Government building = GB1 in the database.....

so it would look like this:

[Construct] <---- thats your button
CC1 = CC1 + Amount1
GB1 = GB1 + Amount2...

get it? so thwats what i want it to do....... can anyone pls tell me like would this be a query? or how would i code that................. ok thanks for reading if you think you can help leave a msg here or add my msn....... poliastin@hotmail.fr

Wow. From your post I couldn't quite tell what you were talking about, but I checked out the site and it seems you actually have some idea of what you're doing.

Anyways, what you'll want to do is use a basic form and $POST variables, like with the login form, except instead of using $POST['username'] and $POST['password'], you'll use the variable names from the construct form, $POST['cc1'], $POST['amount'], or something like that. Then you'll add them together:

$total = $_POST['cc1'] + $_POST['amount'];

or something along those lines. Then you'd submit that to the database like normal.

I think that's what you wanted, at least.

If you could use the boards php tags around your code it would be much easier to read. And it's hard for me to tell but I don't think that will work. Have you tested it?

"That total thing" needs to happen on the form processor.

The way form processing works is you have a form in HTML:

<form name="myForm" action="[b]formProcessor.php[/b]" method="post">
Item Number: <input type="text" name="[b]itemNum[/b]" /><br />

</form>

That would output a text box named itemNum. When they hit the Submit button, what it does is takes that information in itemNum and sends it to formProcessor.php, which reads it in like this:

$itemNum = $_POST['itemNum'];
// this would be the value of whatever the form input was
?>

So then, using HTML, you need to make a form that has the inputs you need- number of units, or whatever. Then, on the form processing page, you'd do something similar to this:

$numUnits = $_POST['numUnits'];
$numToAdd = $_POST['toAdd'];
$total = $numUnits + $numToAdd;
// code to insert $total into database
?>

Does that make sense?

Hahah. Is that a no? 😛 You may want to read up on using PHP and forms together. It's maybe a little in-depth for someone just getting started.

I don't know how you did your login forms, or if that's part of a pre-made thing, but it works the same way. In order to process forms, you need to have the form, and that form needs an action, or something to send its data to. That action has to have a way to read the information from the form, which is sent as a $POST variable. (that's why you use method="post" in form tags) Then, once you have the action processor with the $POST variables, it can manipulate them, say by inserting into a database, then it either outputs something or redirects you. Read up on POST variables and maybe do some Googling for "basic php form tutorial" or something.
