Long url in mail gets cut?

I have a weird issue. I don't know if it's my lack of sleep, or if it's something going wonky with the mail function. I have a long url such as:

https://www.*******.com/confirm.php?lname=$lname&id=$patient_id&ins=no

These long urls are inserted into my appointment confirmation emails. The email gets sent fine, the url just gets cut into:

[url]https://www.*******.com/confirm.php?lname=[/url]ith&id=1&ins=yes

When it should be:

[url]https://www.*******.com/confirm.php?lname=[/url]Smith&id=1&ins=yes

I have tried rearranging the query string several different ways to no avail. No matter how I arrange he url one of the variables gets cut or the ampersand symbol gets cut completely. It's freakin' me out! I'm running php 5 on xampp setup using Mercury mail transport.

If you need to see code, I'll be more than happy to provide it, however I don't think that's the problem here.

try using urlencode() before u send the email

However, nothing got cut. So what do you think is the deal?

well, the alternative is to make an html anchor tag and insert the path with a nicer name for the link

I stumbled upon the solution, it was in the headers. Guess it was in the code after all. :rolleyes:

Changed:

$headers .= "Content-Type: multipart/mixed; boundary=\"MIME_BOUNDRY\"\n";

To:

$headers .= "Content-Type: multipart/alternative; boundary=\"MIME_BOUNDRY\"\n";

Do the rest of these headers look ok?

$headers = "From: ".$sender." <".$email.">\n";
$headers .= "Reply-To: ".$sender." <".$email.">\n";
$headers .= "MIME-Version: 1.0\n";
$headers .= "Content-Type: multipart/alternative; boundary=\"MIME_BOUNDRY\"\n";
$headers .= "X-Sender: ".$_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR']."\n";
$headers .= "X-Priority: ".$priority."\n";
$headers .= "Return-Path: <".$patients_email.">\n";
$headers .= "This is a multi-part message in MIME format.\n";

$message = "--MIME_BOUNDRY\n";
$message .= "Content-Type: text/plain; charset=\"iso-8859-1\"\n";

$message .= "blah, blah,blah";

I need this to be reliable, is there anything above that might throw off other mail programs on other platforms?

its more headers than ive ever sent with an email from PHP so im not the guy to ask bout that
