passing Javascript result to php

I don't know if you query is more appropriate to javascript or php coding but here goes;

I have created a series of universal related popup menus in Javascript, which allows a webuser to specify what type of entry they want to search my database for. But i don't know how to pass their specification to php so it can look up the database and return the relevant results.

Any comments, even if it is to clarify that this is a javascript query and not a php one, would be most gratefully received.

What you're suggesting is definitely possible and is becoming rather popular - it's called AJAX. Search around for AJAX examples and you'll see how it's done.
