how query a db table with column names that have dashes and dots in the name?

for example this does not work:

"SELECT * FROM tablename WHERE 'ARTICLE-NEWS_TYPE' = 'News' LIMIT 4"

You quote columns with " or (all other dbs us ", mysql uses unless you've got sql compliance on) Also note that most databases see capitalization as counting when you quote, so if the column is really named Articles-NEWS_TYPE then you'll need to type it exactly like that. MySQL cares about capitalization on linux but not on Windows, if I remember correctly

better yet, don't use dashes in names. underscores are ok though and don't need to be quoted.

I will give that a shot tomorrow. I asked the db admin to lower case it.. but I think it ticked him off... even though every other column in the db is lowercased. Work sucks.
