Instalation/Server setup??

I just started working in an office, they have a very basic website, Ive gotten a copy of that website offline and I want to make changes. How can I do this...Im trying to install php on my pc here at work, I dont know how to setup the Web server----What worries me is that I dont want to do anytihng wrong, as we have a server here at work and I dont want to make anything NOT work---Please advice and help with details as Im New.

If you're installing locally (as in on the computer directly in front of you) and not on their server, then you can't do anything to muck up their server (unless you really really try).

Now, to install the server on your local computer, one of the easiest things to do is go to apachefriends.org or wampserver.com and install one of their packages. Or you can go get Apache ([url]http://httpd.apache.org)[/url], PHP ([url]http://www.php.net)[/url], MySQL (http://www.mysql.com) and just install them one at a time (mySQL first, then Apache, then PHP) and configure them as needed.

If you're talking about setting up a working environment on your own PC that you will later upload changes to the production environment (a.k.a. your work's webserver), I would highly recommend you match each piece of software involved version for version.

In other words, if your work is using an old Apache 1.3.x web server, don't install Apache 2.2 on your computer to test with (unless you're in the process of convincing them to upgrade :p).
