Password Protected Directory

I need to make a link to files within a password protected directory, I dont want to put the password every time I access them via http, is there a way with PHP to send the user and pwd to the server to authenticate and acces this file????

You could probably use [man]cURL[/man] and specify the password and HTTP authentication type (ex. basic).

A less secure way would be to supply the username and password in the link: http://user:password@host/file
