Handlin lots of string concatenation

Quick question-

I have a PHP program that is concatening a lot of strings before outputting them. Would it be more efficient to join these as I go (ie. use the dot operation - bigstring .= newstuff), or collect the strings in an array, and outputting them in sequence. Or perhaps another way?

Concatenation should be fine, but if those strings come in an array to begin with, just iterate over the array and print one by one.
