Stop showing data 5 days after it was entered into database.

I am at a loss on how to show data only 5 days after the day it is marked as sold in the database.

So, if the admin goes in and marks a item sold. It will continue to show in the page up until 5 days after it has been marked as sold.

So for example,

If I marked sold a car on Oct 5th, it will still show up in the Sales page, but on Oct 11th, it wont show up on this page anymore.

Anyone got a clue or can help me with this one. Im lost.

Look into timestamping - you'll basically want a field in the database to timestamp when it gets sold, sold_timestamp. Then in your PHP code, when you sell the item, generate a timestamp, using any of the numerous functions to do it (http://www.php.net/manual/en/ref.datetime.php), then write that into the database.

Then in your display code, you'll generate the current timestamp, and subtract five days from it. The you simply add a section in your SQL query, "WHERE sold_timestamp <= $five_days_ago;" or something along those lines.

Rather than PHP generating a timestamp, you could simply run an UPDATE query and let the SQL server add the appropriate time stamp.

Then, in your SELECT statement to show items, you'd simply add a clause like:

...  WHERE (time_sold IS NULL OR  (time_sold <= NOW() - INTERVAL 5 DAY))

In the form or function you use to marke an item as sold create a current time stamp and include that in a database field.

$time_sold = $time();

When retrieving data from the database calculate what the current time less 5 days would be and add a WHERE statement to your database query.

$current_time = $time();
$past_date = $current_time-432000;

(your query string) WHERE $time_sold>$past_date

That way after 5 days the $time_sold stamp will be smaller (older) then the calculated $past_date stamp and will not be retrieved from the database for displayed.
