Editing html in a php site.

I just got a website www.automalljamaica.com. What I want to figure out is how do I edit or add new html for the purpose of adding banners, pictures, links, counters etc.? If you look at the index page for example, there is a picture of a blue jeep. I know that if I upload another file with the same name to the same directory that has that picture, then I can change the picture. What I don't get is how to put another picture beside it or anywhere else on the site. I tried copying the source file of the page, doing the edits and then resaving it as index.php. The page looked basically the same, but it didn't work. I want to be able to sell advertising space and right now, I don't know how to do it. Please help. Thanks

Sounds like you should read a book on authoring HTML. Or do a tutorial or something. PHP may be too advanced for you.

hi,
resaving the file wont work! all this does is saves that file to your computer. you need to know the ftp settings and have a ftp upload program to put the files on the server that the site is hosted on. Dreamweaver can be help full for this. to get the settings contact your site developer. make sure you save the whole site first and back it up the play around then if it all goes wrong then all you have to do is put the files back again.

I've built html websites before. I know how to do the basic coding for html. The first time I looked at PHP was last week. All the pages on the site I referred to in my initial post are saved as .php. When I go to my control panel and open index.php for example, I don't see any of the html coding in that file. All I see is php code and I can't figure out how to get to the html I want to edit. As I said, if I copy the source file to a PHP editor, I can do the edits. But when I resave the file as php, it now has all the html tags in there which weren't in the original php file to begin with. I guess I'll have to do some PHP tutorials as you siad.

I didn't just save in back to the computer. I saved it and uploaded in back to my website through the control panel. I did my backups and put back the original when that didn't work.
