Hello,
I'm a senior CE major at UCSC. I'm trying to develop my website totally as
side thing, not the most important thing in the world since my new born son comes first, then school, then the site... I really think that PHP offers the solution to my site goals but I'm not too sure yet since I have Zero experience with it.
I know I can have a forum with PHP...that I understand. But what I really want is for my site to be scalable. That is, I dont want to have to create or edit page-after-page myself everytime I add new content, or want to change a theme. I would like a program to do that for me.... For example, here is my front page
www.vgpowered.com
I want all the subsequent pages to look like the front page...the nav bar on top, the side links and tables, background etc... the only thing that would change would be the content in the grey table, and the ads on bottom. So each page would be a template like this and would recall the contents in the grey table from a database, which would include text and pictures. Also on the front page, I would like a little "news" box that I can write to without having to change the entire front page...kinda like a feed. Is this all possible with PHP or am I expecting too much? I need to know before I spend endless hours pouring through all the PHP tutorials until my eyes become bloodshot, which means I would ignore my baby and HW in the name of learning PHP just to find out I cant do it... :glare:
So if I could be pointed in the right direction, and or be given some tips as far as my application goes, that would help me stream line my site building process 🙂
Sorry for the novel. 😃
