how to get email receipt from recipient ?

how to get email receipt from recipient ?
I have used this program http://www.phpbuilder.com/columns/equazcion20070502.php3 but this does not work with Outlook and other desk top mail clients.

Please suggest me how can I do this?
I have to update my data base if user read my email.

Do you think this can not be done ?

This is more of a html question than a php. Here is a link that explains how it works. On your server you could use php to read your server log and see if the request was made.

i am using web page pop up to send email

i have written code like this

this works with Yahoo and Gmail etc but not with outlook and and outlook express and other desk top mail clients.

SentThere 3.0 and http://www.confimax.com/ they use plugin to send some code with email but mine is web based.

Please let me know if you have some useful stuff in this topic.

I think the problem you are experiencing is because Gmail, outlook etc block images by default. You could instruct your users to download the image, or place your content in an image so that they would be forced to download images in order to see the email's content. Maybe somebody else is got a hack that fixes your problem in a more efficient way. Good luck.

do you think if i put a image and and ask user to enable that image then script is going to work ? but i have never seen a single email receipt comming from outlook or outlook express i have send at least 300 email to different clients with same program. but that always work with gmail and yahoo etc.

It wouldn't hurt to try. Perhaps Gmail and yahoo didn't block images then. Please be aware that there may be additional filters in place that would prevent the request from being sent to your server. After all what you are doing in embedding a request to your server in the form of a hidden image.
