I am not trying to create another "social network" but I am needing to create something similar for work. Basically a Blog system with typical privacy options, friends list, and so on. Not talented enough to build my own from scratch, but am capable of mashing up some different code and getting it going.
So, what would you suggest I start with? I've heard over and over again WordPress but its a little too much hassle for this small of a project. What about phpBB? Are there any community websites out there I could take a look at that have been forked off phpBB?
Any suggestions would help.
