allowing a user to change page content

I have created a web site for the owner of a small, seasonal business. It is a completely static site, but I would like to add one feature that would allow the owner to modify one page of the site as needed.

I am interested in providing them a page that allows them to log-in, complete a form of their hours of operation, and in turn, update the web page that contains their hours of operation.

I am familiar with forms and creating new html pages with PHP but I am not at all clear about security. For example, is it possible to store a single password securely, without using a database? What other security considerations should I consider?

If the only use of the password is to permit access to and input of a form to change hours of service, then, since the form page itself is just another PHP page on the site then there is little reason to do more them embed the password directly into the login logic.

PHP code is "secure enough" to allow a low security site to operate this way. It is certainly as secure as the form page itself will be. Just be sure to put code on the form page that will not allow the form to display or be processed until the user has keyed in the correct password.

AND, of course, the login page must be SSL secured or there is no security at all.
