[RESOLVED] problem with an array

hi,

I am still stuck with my script...
I am uploading 1 to 6 images on the server. I randomize their name.

then I want to store the path + name in my database.

the thing is: $uploadname returns in a single string all the names.

I tried to use str_split but the keys are always equal to 0

with a while loop I get:

0 = 20071114_fz4g1mfasinkgtxreu6pin6utmtbnids.jpg
1 = 20071114_4psc5cefshu5y1zbhltw4jpq0ppximld.jpg
2 = 20071114_djzfqa6zi2sxf645zmvxnbblnrw6xh1y.jpg
3 = 20071114_0nh32tfhtg6e5u5skwmbj5fppamshnc5.jpg
4 = 20071114_oabyofizesd2j4j0i3u5vc0oiw3cg4nu.jpg
5 = 20071114_ihwo2lkdqhajvmsuywfmwjyaippjffjn.jpg

where the 0, 1 ,2 ... is given by the counter of the loop ($i)

what I'd like to do is to have a variable I can call like this:

$variable[0] = image_file1.jpg
$variable[1] = image_file2.jpg

.
.
.

Unlikely. All the keys in any array are unique. They can't be all the same (unless there is only one element in the array).

If you've got a while loop, why not use that?

You can use HTML like this:

<input type="text" name="file[]">

to generate an array in PHP.

Thus

<input type="text" name="file[]">
<input type="text" name="file[]">
<input type="text" name="file[]">
<input type="text" name="file[]">
<input type="text" name="file[]">

will generate a value in the GET/POST array of "file" which itself will be an array

foreach ($_GET['file'] as $id=>$filename) {
    echo($filename.'<br />');
}

Combine a new array and your while loop. Or use a for loop.

$new_array = array();
while() {
$new_array[] = $whatever_vars_you_use_here;
}
// then you'd have an array indexed with 0, 1, 2, etc
