Need Help -- I'm losing my mind here

Please, if anyone can offer any tips or solutions I would be most appreciative.

I've worked with a really great PHP coder to build our website. It took a long time, and it was done with the latest code. I think its really a great site. BUT...

Whenever I have a PREMIUM Member, or a FREE MEMBER upgrade their membership to a PREMIUM member the one-year expiration date is January 1, 1971. AND, the other day a FREE member upgraded his membership, it went through fine, but because of the January 1, 1971 expiry date at midnight his account reverted back to FREE membership.

So far, the PHP coder I have doesn't know why this is happening. Apparently the error logs aren't saying much.

Can anyone offer any ideas as to why its happening and how I might fix it? Do you think its in the scripts my coder wrote or the PHP (v 5.2 I believe) or MYSQL (v5 I believe), or maybe even the LINUX OS (Cent OS)?

Sounds like whatever code is setting the registration date is failing, returning a 0 or a boolean false value. Since a zero value in UNIX time equals 1970-01-01 00:00 UTC, whatever code is adding a year to the registration date is coming up with the 1971-01-01 value. Therefore you want to take a close look at whatever code is resetting the registration date, or if the problem is not there then the code that is recalculating the expiration date and making sure it is referencing the correct value for the registration date.

Thanks for the input. If I understand you correctly, then this code snippet from the signup class is what is setting the expiration date. Does this code look right to you? If so, would I look elsewhere?

I would take a look at the method called by this line:

$thisExpires = $this->_validate($this->Account_Type,'expires');

if _validate() returns a false or 0, then $thisExpires will be set to the current server time, and $expires will be an empty string.
