Need to calculate date expired?

Hi all!

I hope you can help me with this date problem I have been having, I have searched the forums but I am having trouble implementing the solutions I have found! PHP beginner sorry!

I have members register for the website, and we need to approve their membership in 7 days. If they come back within those 7 days I want to be able to tell them that they have to wait 'X' more days until they can login to the site.

So if they register today, 11/15/2007, they will see that they have 7 days until they can login to the site. If 7 days is up they see that they can just login.

My date field (datereg) currently formatted as "11/10/2007" in the database (its varchar not datetime formatted).

Use strtotime() to convert the date into a unix timestamp. Then use time() to get the current unix timestamp. The difference between the two is the number of seconds elapsed.

I changed my date field to format to a more useful YYYY-MM-DD and used the code below to get it working. Thanks for the help!

$current = strtotime($datereg);

$mydate1 = date("Y-m-d");
$mydays1 = floor(strtotime($mydate1)/SECONDS_IN_A_DAY);
$mydays2 = floor(strtotime($mydate2)/SECONDS_IN_A_DAY);

$days = ($mydays2 - $mydays1);

If you have the date stored in a DB, note that you can have your DB return the new date as well when you retrieve the row of data (for example, MySQL's DATE_ADD() function will do this).
