SmartCard and PHP

Hello.
I must create a program that read the certificate in the smartcard (in a usb device) and so authenticate the user to access in a specific site area.

Have you some script PHP to do this? If is not possible to do this with PHP, what must I use and where I could find script in that language?

Is the smart card on the server or the client?

Read the developer documentation for the device to see what APIs they provide - you can then hook it into PHP by whatever mechanism seems best (e.g. external program with exec(), PHP extension, some kind of daemon, web service, etc).

It's your device, you must read the developer / API documentation for the device and its associated server components.

The smart card is in the client, and I want to compare his information with the information in the server in other to autenticate the client.

I don't know how to find information about device api... I don't have any manual or software utility attached to the device....

PS: I read that this kind of operation (client authentication by smart card) I must do only with a client-side application like a java applet.... If it's true, how could I integrate java applet with php?

I cannot help you- you will need to contact the vendor who you bought the smart cards from, refer to your account manager with the smart card vendor for more information.

If your company bought the smart cards without any evaluation of the software APIs available for their use, then they made a very ill-advised decision.

Whenever you evaluate a piece of technology, developers who may have to integrate with it must be consulted - and must be provided with sample devices, APIs and time to do evaluation studies - otherwise you'll end up shooting yourself in the foot buying some amazing device that you can't integrate with.
