[RESOLVED] do you know i can make a htaccess file dynamic ?

I was wondering how to make an htaccess file dynamic so that when the site administrator creates a new category of products the htaccess file can access the database and set up the url rewrite rules accordingly

or would i have to re-create a new htaccess file using fwrite() etc each time a category is created or deleted ?

htaccess can't be "dynamic" as you specify first. But you could use the fwrite() trick 😉 That's the only way I know you can do it. If you're smart about it, you can have blocks so that to remove an item, it's as easy finding that block...

Then again, you could just use one general rewrite rule...

Just so you have a better idea of what I was referring to, here's just a small example..

RewriteEngine On

## Some site name here
RewriteRule ^some rule$ here
## #####

## Some other site name here
RewriteRule ^another rule$ here
RewriteRule somethingelse$ here
## #####

Then it's just a matter of in PHP adhering to the proper format, and when deleting an area, you just delete the areas between "## sitename" and "## #####". Easy to navigate, easy to work with.

There's a way to tie .htaccess into an LDAP directory, but I'll be damned if I know how to do it offhand. 🙂

edit: and I suppose this isn't an authentication issue, it's a redirect issue, and the thread is already resolved. God, I need to get some sleep or something. :quiet:
