php .htaccess or server config for base url

Hello all and thanks for reading my question.

any fast help would be deeply appreciated...I just upgraded to php5 and now anytime someone goes to the base url
http://www.mysite.com/

They get a message to download the file or open the file.....I noticed when I browse to http://www.mysite.com/index.php my site is still working

I noticed in my .htaccess a new line was added
AddHandler x-httpd-php5 .php

but I remmed it out and and it didn't do anything

It seems this occurs in any directory where it ends in /

does anyone know what is going on with this? it was working just fine before I updated.

I've tried using this in the htaccess but had no results, it does the same thing

I had the same issue. I waited a couple of days and everything fixed itself. I had others look at the site and it worked for them fine. I checked with other PCs in my house and it was jacked like you say your is. A couple days later after clearing cache and all that crap, it just started working.

If you find a solid solution, it would be great to know.
