Upload strips MIME type

I am encountering a strange intermittent problem that I hope someone may have come across before and may be able to enlighten me!

We have a file upload script that in some cases does not detect the mimetype of a file nor does it find its size, and therefore fails to pass the checks and fails to upload.

One thing I have noticed is that if we upload a file from the internal network, this almost certainly causes the file to fail to upload due to the prior reasons however copying the file to the PC and uploading it from there sometimes rectifies this but not always.

Any ideas on what maybe causing this?

If you are depending on the $FILE array to determine mime type, be aware that, as stated in the file upload section of the manual (my highlights):

$_FILES['userfile']['type']

The mime type of the file, [b]if the browser provided this information[/b]. An example would be "image/gif". [b]This mime type is however not checked on the PHP side and therefore don't take its value for granted[/b].

If you are trying to detect this information in some other manner, then we'll probably need to see your code.
