Mail() function does not display error

Hello,

I have this little piece of code that sends an email to the users and checks that the mail function worked properly.

It works perfectly offline and when I enter a wrong email adress (without "@" for instance), it says that the mail could not be sent.

On my site (live), it makes as if the mail was properly sent (which is obsviously not the case) !

Is that an apache configuration problem ?
What should I change ?

This is a very basic code :

/* Send the mail */
$mail_sent = mail($email,$email_subject,$message_email,$headers);

if(!($mail_sent)){
	echo("A problem occured");
}

Again, it works on my PC, but not on my site and I do not think it has to do with the code...

Do you get any error messages? Try putting error_reporting(E_ALL); at the top of the script. Also, you should check your mailserver configuration - it could be refusing to send from a non-existant address or something along those lines.

No, the strange thing is that my script should print "A problem occured" but it doesn't.
It makes as if everything was ok ...
I just dont get it !

Did you try putting error_reporting(E_ALL) at the top? Just because you try and catch an error on the mail statement doesn't mean it's not throwing an error. Also, could you post the whole code segment, not just the mail call? Chances are you're using register_globals or something that isn't supported on most server installed.

No, did not try the E-ALL stuff, but I will.

I just got an answer from the tech service of my hosting company

When the email address does not contain "@", it is interpreted as a local address, which explains why I do not get any error message.

What I would like to know know is why I get an error on my PC when I type the wrong domain name in the email address (like "hotkail" instead of "hotmail") and not on my live system.

I use easyphp on my PC...

most likely the way your local mailserver is configured- probably silently throws out emails that go to a local account that doesn't exist, whereas your hosting company tells you that it doesn't exist.
