Before we suggest anything, it would be good to know your programming background.

Are you already proficient in object oriented programming with another programming language? If so, you only need to get up to scratch on the syntax, so reading the PHP manual on Classes and Objects.

Are you familiar with PHP, but just weak on OO concepts?

Yes, I learnt a lot about php and I going to be expert in php very fast. but waek in OO as you said. and I don't know OO with any other programming language so that php manual is not good for me as I don't have any OO background. any other good tutorial is appreciated.

if a OO script works on php4, will it work on php5 too? (I understand it won't necessarily work vice versa. but if works on php4 will it work on php5 too?)

I think this OO tutorial is for php5 only? if yes then please give a tutorial for php4 because I want to give away my script for public download and some users might have php4 on the server.

Generally, yes. At the moment I cannot think of an example where it is not backwards compatible, but perhaps there is such a case.

I will not bother since PHP4 has about 25 days left to live with support from the PHP Group, and I do not want to encourage new code to be written specifically for PHP4.

If you relied on PHP4's passing objects by value instead of reference then it breaks in PHP5. I've seen:

$foo = new foo();
$foo->id = 1;
$array[] = add_stuff_to_foo($foo); // which returned $foo with additional properties set
$foo->id = 2;
$array[] = add_stuff_to_foo($foo);

Which works in PHP4 (though not good practice), but the author was surprised when in PHP5 both array elements turned out to be identical.
