I want to learn PHP language

You need one of the many HTTP servers out there to run PHP. Apache is the most robust and commonly used server; however, LightTPD is an alternative. There are others that you can set up that might be easier to use (or harder). One is called Nginx, the one by Microsoft is called IIS, and there are others.

The easiest thing to do would be to find a cheap shared host and actually purchase space from them and purchase a domain name. Then you don't have to worry about setting all this up now.

If you want to set up Apache and all on Windows, there are plenty of tutorials online (including one at the top of the "Install" forum on here) and the same goes for tutorials dealing with Apache and Linux.

EDIT I should mention that you can run PHP through a command-line interface (CLI); however, you'd get the raw-output and if you outptu HTML, it would just be text. But that can help you start things off. Typically you don't see PHP used this-way except to do some syntax checks. The most common thing you see is to have PHP coupled with a real webserver.

To get your first php server up and running I recommend downloading WAMP (Windows Apache MySQL and PHP). It comes with everything you'll need, Apache with php installed as well as MySQL and phpmyadmin.

To get the apache server up, the xampp distribution has worked the best for me http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp.html. It comes with a lot of features that you will probably need already turned on for you. Good luck

is in the beginning it is in my best that have an easiest one Http server...
which one is easiest for me.

I've used both and I much prefer WAMP. But really it's mostly about preference. Try em both. But start with WAMP first 😉

Hey ahmedkalu,

I was in your spot a few months ago, then I went out and got Beginning PHP5, Apache and MySQL Web Development, written by some moderators from this forum. It's a great book, and covers everything from a simple echo to creating your own Content Management System and Forum.

I'd really recommend you go out and buy it, it's worth it and is big — yet describes every part in detail.

Get the book and scan about those links Nog posted, then read through this forum and I bet you'd go far.

As previously mentioned, XAMPP Lite is simple to set up and maintain, if you've got windows, click here to get it. If not, a download for your OS should be listed here.

It's completely free and a great bonus for all. 🙂

Need an Editor? Splash some cash on Dreamweaver or keep it free and get an editor with Syntax highlighting enabled, such as Notepad++ or Vim 6.4. You can even use Notepad, but Syntax highlighting will help you a great deal. 🙂

If you're really going to splash cash into an editor, don't put it to Dreamweaver, put it into Zend. It's the same price; however, Zend is made by the developers of PHP and it's much more feature rich than Dreamweaver. Just my opinion...

You can use any software:

Notepad
Notepad++
Notepad2
Edit Plus
Vi
ViM
Bluefish
Zend IDE
PhpED
Dreamweaver
Eclipse

Take your pick.... they're all good. Some have syntax highlighting, others don't. Pick one that feels right.
