question about encoding

I want to encode CC# with a key before storing in db then later I can get the CC# decoded only with that key. But not interested in mcrypt to do so. Isn't there any other way for encoding/decoding?

Write some PHP code that will implement one of the mcrypt algorithms. Be a lot easier to just use mcrypt of course.

Unless you don't have control over the system on which this will be running and can't install it.

In which case I wouldn't trust you with MY credit card details.
