Using variables to grab data

Hi guys;

Basically I am setting up a simple pedigree system for my father. I just need to know a couple of things that I am stuck with:

I have a DB/Table with two columns (ID & Sire)

What I need to do is grab ID & Sire and display it (based on a URL variable)

Then using the Sire part of the display, source that from the table AS THE ID and start the process again.

Obviously the ID & Sire columns are pretty much identical. So for instance:

ID = 1,2,3,4,5
Sire = 2,3,4,5,6

Where ID = The animal (1) Sire = His Father (2)

or ID = The animal (4) Sire = His Father (5) etc....

Does that make sense?

Do I need two tables?

Any help will be great - sorry if I am being very thick - I am really quite new to PHP/MySQL etc... 🙂

Don't worry guys - after a night full of coffee and books I have developed an easier method to achieve my ends. 🙂
