What really stymied me is when I loaded the acid2 test page on firefox 2.0.0.9 on my work machine and it didn't render properly. :/ Must've been something with my display settings on the window or something.

It appears that the acid2 test page has recently acquired a bug. If you run it through the W3C CSS validator, it will not validate.

(A true M$ hater would, I'm sure, jump to the conclusion that the error was introduced by a M$ hacker so that IE8 would render it properly. 😉 )

That part can be explained away by "Some 827 people (rough estimate, contents may have settled during shipping) have written to point out that the CSS used in the test is invalid. This is deliberate, as a means of exposing the ability of user agents to handle invalid CSS properly."

OK, but it does seem that something has changed in the last day or two, not that it really concerns me enough that I'm going to spend time trying to analyze it: I've got enough of my own bugs to work on. 😉

Haha, from what I understand Firefox 3 will render it when its out finally.

Opera and Safari (win32) don't render it correctly either.

Could MS end up with the most standards compliant browser? I realise its not a standards test and rather just an implementation of many of the more advanced features.

I think this looks very promising, or atleast it could be promising in about 6+ years when we can forget about older IE's

dougal85 - we'll NEVER be able to forget about older IE's. We'll ALWAYS be putting that /IE5 Hack/ in our CSS files 😢

Really? I've not supported IE5 in my development for a while now. I've not seen it running on a computer in a long time.

No complaints thus far.

Me too. The only problem that I've come across in using this technique is that the majority of the business world uses IE.

I dev in FF, but IE6 and 7 are a must. in many ways they are in a way more important that FF at the end of the day.

From my understanding, as currently designed (and who knows, things could change before IE8 goes live), the document must include a http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" meta tag or be served with that in a header in order for IE8 to render the Acid2 test correctly. As such a header is not part of the actual Acid2 test, IE8 would therefore not pass the test, unless the test is "rigged" to include that header.
